We've always loved Method Hand Soap, and we know many ATers do too. Shopping at Target, we noticed the new packaging for Method Hand Soap Refills is a soft-sided, squishy pouch. According to Method, the soft plastic pouch uses 83% less plastic than a hard plastic bottle and takes less energy to produce...

I love Method's tile and tub cleaner, but am not a huge fan of the soap. I'm more of a Mrs. Meyer's kinda gal.

Cucumber!!! So far none of the refills come in that scent. :( BTW...Home Depot carries Method refills.

I still kind of skeptical of methods enviro claims. They're good on some things (ie their wood cleaner is better than swiffer), but it seems there's a lot "greener" hand and dish soaps than method. I keep going back to the hand soap refills, however because Avalon organics and the like don't sell their soaps in refill size.

I bought the cucumber dish soap for the first time recently, and I have to say that the scent is disconcertingly "perfumey" and very strong. It might be good for a body wash in the shower (even if it's really strong) ... but on my dishes, it just seems wrong. I doubt I'd buy it again.

This kind of packaging has been around in Japan for decades, usually for bodywash, shampoo and conditioner. Some popular sports drinks and juices also comes in bags. They are also so much lighter to carry.
I'm really glad that it is finally here. But I think to make a bigger difference for the environment, major brands such as P&G should employ this technique.

I seem to remember bag-type refills coming out in the early 90s, but they were only on the shelf for a few months before they disappeared again. Will they take off this time around?

It's been around the US for decades too!! Caprisun anyone?

Huh: I guess I figured the pouches were used everywhere...they're new to the states? Here in Germany, it's common to find soap and lotion refills packaged in plastic pouches.

While they may not be new, they are definitely not the norm.

Michelle of Montreal, I seem to remember some sort of scare about some jerks using needles to inject dangerous chemicals into products on the store shelves--I wonder if the soft packaging was pulled about that time? It was a big scare around here, and I could see why consumers would prefer hard packaging that just felt safer and more tamper-proof.
Here's hoping we don't have any problems this time! I would like to see this kind of reduced packaging take off.
My favorite Method scent is one I've seen only once--Lemon Ginger. MMMmmmmmmmmmm...... Otherwise, I like Pink Grapefruit. But the Yling-Ylang shower cleaner practially sends me into an asthmatic fit, and I don't have asthma. Does anyone know of a similar product that is unscented?

Does anyone else have trouble with "cutting" the Method dish soap?
When I pour it directly into my glass bottle w/olive oil spout, it doesn't come out.
When I add about 1/3 water to 2/3 soap, it becomes too liquidy.
Anyone have the right combination?

Does anyone know if the dish soap is also available in this type of refill package?
I love the fragrance-free products and i'm amazed everytime i use them that they really have no smell at all. sometimes i wonder if method is really just selling water.

Marie, something in between? ;')

I know in Europe they've packaged fresh milk this way for years (in a squishy pouch). The idea is that you take it home and put it in a pitcher to keep the pouch upright -- cuts down on a lot of waste!

Thanks Jon_B...I will definitely give that a try! ;)

Their floorcare cleaner for the omop currently comes in Lemon Ginger scent. They used to have it in a spray cleaner, but that was discontinued years ago.

These have been around for a while -- at least since the fall -- but around the time they came out, Target overhauled their hand soap scent offerings. The scents they'd sold for years were replaced with new scents, which were also made available in these refill bags. For example, Sweet Water was replaced with a marine scent.
Recently, at my local store, I have seen the old hand soap scents sold next to the cleaners with similar scents. But for a while they didn't have any of them.
I find this particular type of hand soap (anything clear) very drying, so a while ago, I switched to the newer opaque moisturizing soaps sold in pumps. Method doesn't sell a refill for them -- not in Target, anyway -- so I don't buy them anymore. I buy the ostensibly much less eco-friendly, but way cheaper, Softsoap Nutra-Oil.
Which also doesn't offer refills, though most popular varieties of Softsoap liquid handsoap is available in refills.
On another note, we did buy some of the holiday "never tested on reindeer" hand soap -- Hollyberry scent -- and would definitely buy more of that if it were available year-round, or in a refill.

i have recently started to really read ingredients...take a look at method and check out if you can pronounce their ingredients and know what they are...i could not... while they are on the green band wagon...not so natural...what about a good old bar of soap...we all grew up on those...very little packaging and clean...dr.bronner...skinnyskinnysoaps...great truly natural/organic soaps.

Dr. Bronner's really dries out my skin. YMMV. :)
