Neat concept, but... shouldn't a bathroom be easy to find?

Maybe the residents wanted to hide that garishly tacky bathroom? Sorta keeping on the DL with their inner-Ivana Trump.

Why not put something a little saucier back there!

i was expecting some Lost-type cave or hideout. Oh well! I don't understand a bathroom being a secret hideout, but it's a neat concept.

i think it's a great idea for hiding a linen closet or cupboard, but i agree with the others, that a bathroom should be easy to find.

I think if you had a very small space this would be a great use of space. I would love one of these for my son's bedroom.

Although I like the idea, I would not use it for a bathroom either. Maybe for the door to the cellar. Hmm, that is a great idea actually.
Also..
When I look at the pics I can't help thinking of the Anne Frank House. The door to the attic was hidden behind a bookcase.

I think this is a cool/quirky solution, and it sure is more interesting than a plain old door.

What's not easy to find about this?

I'm with casafroggy... it needs something sexier. A bodoir, a speakeasy, underground railroad station, Batmobile...

I've always been fascinated by the idea of a hidden room.

I'd probably put in a hidden library behind a bookshelf, with a lovely chaise lounge. Somewhere nice to escape to.

Bathroom seems a little odd, though.

Since I was a child, I've LOVED the idea of hidden rooms.
This is great even for a small space. I'm thinking of doing this to my walk in linen closet in my small condo.

If you live there, you shouldn't need to be told where the bathroom is. If you have guests, just tell them to push on the bookcase.

It's not like this is in some eatery and you need a secret decoder ring. Sheesh.

I was secretly hoping the bookcase door would lead to the Batcave... or maybe some hidden treasure. Or even a library lounge filled with more books!

I can only imagine what would happen at a party when someone's gotta go real bad.... "Where's the bathroom?"

"I can't find the bathroom!!!"

But at least once they do, they'll have plenty of reading materials.

It could just be me, but that bookcase needs more books on it, or at least some candle sconces beside it. We can't have come this far on the trail and just push on the practically empty bookcase. It's anticlimactic! This is no way to discover secret chambers at all.

Saw this on "Moving Up." They also hid a bathroom. How sturdy is the bookshelf/door going to be after it is loaded up with books?

They probably just finished installing everything and want to show it off, so they haven't had enough time to pick out the perfect books for it.

My only problem with having that as a bathroom door - where's the lock?

I'm with casafroggy too - at the very least, a dungeon, a pleasure-palace, a load of something so weird, it wouldn't actually be allowed on the cybertubes....

But a plain, vanilla BATHROOM?!

Surely those are the most boring part of any home?

It's not like the toilet seat even has barbed wire....

I LOVE the concept of a bookcase as a hidden door, but I always wonder how you would keep things from falling when you open the door. Books probably wouldn't be a big problem, but I'd be afraid to keep anything else on there.

Seriously, this post is very helpful because we are renovating right now and we plan to put a bookcase instead of a door to access a small storage space. We plan to put a lot of books and I am wondering if the harware used is sturdy enough to keep the bookcase from sagging.

Great idea. Very well executed. Saw it on HGTV where they disguised a door leading to the equipment room from the kitchen.
