Look!: Chalkboard Paint Wall at Market Table

Not just for kids anymore. We were taken to a very delicious (but noisy) dinner at Market Table on Monday night and took pics of the details. The thing we liked most was their use of chalboard paint to transform a wall and announce the bathrooms...

Chalkboard paint is usually used for kids and kitchen grocery lists (though good ATers have done other things: MegethPixel did her living room with it here). Here, however, the folks at market table have made it a really flexible creative space for marking the bathrooms and putting up the occasional decorative flourish near th e kitchen. We like that they've worked up high on the wall and drawn attention to areas that chalk rarely gets to.

They also are using raw butcher block for their tables. This stuff is relatively cheap and easy to buy, and makes for a really sturdy, warm dining surface. The only weird thing is that they haven't sealed the wood at all and you feel as if your eating on top of someone with dry skin (we have dry skin, so we know how that feels). We'd like to see them oiled to give them a smoother, more waterproof finish, but the look is really nice.

It reminds me of the decor in the Arclinea studio. http://www.arclinea.it/

I love the idea of being able to make changes easily, keeping things fresh, like the food.

Preferable to eat off of smooth, oiled skin.
