Look!: Eames Mesh Chair for Dining

6-4-eames1.jpg

Personally, we find the FLOR catalogs most notable for their incredible prop styling, which shows off the Flor tiles amazingly well. In the catalog that just arrived, many noted the new colorful Girard tile collection, La Fonda del Sol, but no one commented on the hot Eames Mesh Management chairs....

Originally designed by Charles Eames for house designed by Aero Saarinen and Alexander Girard, this is an updated classic, as Herman Miller has replaced the typical leather or hopsack with a new colorful and sharply modern mesh.

We like the creativity of plugging chairs like this into a dining room, when their typically seen in an office. But why not? They're comfortable and practical, AND - with the mesh - elegant as well. Check out the other mesh choices as well as the other cool props used at FLOR.

This chair has been classically used as a dining chair for decades. Nothing new. I loved the chair and worked for Herman Miller but not a fan of casters at the dining table especially with hard floors. if one uses this chair on bare floors be sure to specify soft casters.

and at 1800 bucks a pop they're an affordable option for most AT readers, i'm sure.

lol @ duckumu, that was exactly what I thought....right after I wondered who let a football sportscaster and his pen on AT.

Cheaper alternative. They used to sell it in mesh.

I appreciate that it was indicated in the picture which chairs around the dining table were the Eames mesh chairs. Otherwise, I would have been lost.

I had one of the mesh chairs at the office I used to work at, and I loathed it. The seat bottom was so deep that it cut into the backs of my knees. I had to use a back pillow just to get myself forward enough not to get office bruises, and I am a fairly tall woman. The leather version was more comfortable, but I agree with LoriSF about casters at the dining table on hard floors; I would not want to be rolling around while trying to eat.

Look! One more cool thing I'll never be able to afford. No, I'm not bitter.

Would these chairs really seem so remarkable if they didn't have the 'eames' name attached to them? I'm getting a bit tired of the repetitive brand loyalty on AT, I'm beginning to think that absolutely anything could be tagged as 'hot' or 'sexy' as long as it had a mid-century name on the label.

I am a fan of the Eames' work but I find these chairs pretty ugly and really wonder if these EXACT same chairs were sold (sans Eames labeling) at K-Mart if people would still buy them. The brand obsession on this site is getting old.
