"I thought you might be interested in these. I tend to have a running project of making my apartment space interesting on a low budget.

The office/studio space is coming along. The rest of the apartment is still a bit sad. (My furniture is in another state in storage and has been for the past 3 years) So, I am not investing in too much new furniture... You can see pictures of my old apartments here." (Thanks, Tiffany!)

Great apartment. I love the lighting fixture in the bedroom. Did you get it locally? Also, I know you said your place was put together on a budget - did you make your own roman shades?

What fun! I love the lighting in your office space right above your desk (ceiling) - swoon!

You've represented Portland Maine quite well - the quirky indie side that I love so much when I travel up there. I had a friend in Portland and her apartment was a lot like yours - lived in and charming - something I'm really inspired by because I think you have a place that truly reflects YOU as a person. I imagine that every single item has a bit of a story to tell. Fantastic.

I love your Amelie poster - I'm a huge fan of that film, funny because I blogged about how to have an amelie theme party just yesterday. Click my name, you may appreciate this... :)

Since you're in Portland, have you checked out the Angela Adams flagship store or the very cute edith + edna boutique (http://www.edithandedna.com)?

LOVE IT! so much personality!

i love the ceiling light that's sorta above your desk. did you buy that or make it? if you made it, please tell me how.
i also like the galvanized hanging plant pots w/ the frosted glass. i do the frosted glass thing too. i love how it gives you privacy & still lets in light & a little color.

Adorable place! As a seamstress and doll clothing maker I know how hard it can be to organize all the fabric and other items used for various projects. I actually know you from the TIB forum and it's nice to see where you make all your wonderful SqueakyMonkey Blythe togs!

Keep up the wonderful work!

Hi,

Thanks for the nice comments. :)

Monica - so funny about TIB! :) I will be slaving away all weekend on dolly clothes! Once you find yourself in sewing mode - yes, it is very hard to stay sane with "stuff"! I'm hoping to not get sucked into the mess again! Keep things in their place. etc... for those that don't know about TIB - we are Blythe collectors and my Blythe website is http://www.squeakymonkey.com

MG - the hanging lamp in the middle of my office/studio is actually holiday lighting from IKEA - there isn't any electricity coming from that center part of the ceiling - so it works really great and has so much character. I just wish I would have bought a few more (in case the bulbs burn out). Galvanized pots - 2.99 also at IKEA! - and me too! I frost every place I live. I'm really surprised more people don't do it.

Holly - yes, Amelie (she is in my Feng Shui helpful people sector - can you get more helpful than her?) Thanks for the nice words. Yes, every little thing does have a history or a plan. Especially the things I have in storage. Little pieces I've picked up here and there or snagged from relatives... I actually haven't been to the Angela Adams store as it is a bit out of my price range and the link for edithandedna.com has a missing graphic and that's it. I'll have to look and see if they have a physical presence. :) I'll have to spend some time looking at your blog!

Mel,

Roman shades/Venetian Blinds are straight from IKEA too! They didn't have the window coverings I wanted so I ended up opting for the $4.99 shades! They work! I didn't have any covering - but, it's nice to have something to really close if I want to walk around in my jammies or inspect my Blythe house at night when I feel the whole world can see my lit up corner of the world! And the shade in my bedroom is actually a shade that used to be a nice shade - but, it's been squished into my beetle for 2 cross country road trips (the fit everything in the car that you can moves) and I kinda like it all banged up. :)

Again - thanks all for the nice comments and thanks Maxwell for posting my pictures!

Tiffany,

Yes Edith + Edna have a physcial shop in Portland - it's quite cute inside. From what I can see from your space, you'd reallllly dig it. Lots of indie style arts, crafts, cutie home stuff, etc.

They are at 51 Exchange Street. The owners are Brandie and Julie, lovers of all things handmade.

Have fun!

fabulous. I like this apartment so much not because it's just what I want to do but because it feels so right. I like home tours like this one the best.

frosted windows! is it permanent?

posted by anna on 2006-07-01 13:24:01

anna,
for non permanent frosted window effect:
hang flourescent ceiling lighting plastic panels;
thread thru eyelets to adjust, above or below window when clear view is sought.

(thanks HGTV/Cy Winship)

that's a cool tip! for this effect. it comes in a spray can and can be found with spray paint at most home centers. it comes off with paint thinner and a blade or scraper and some "elbow grease".

I think I spied a couple of pretty sweet Jamfancy prints. I think this space is a good example of how you you can have some collections and not have them overwhelm

Ok I have to ask about the smaller dolls that are pictured on your aprtment post ?

posted by john on 2006-07-02 23:41:49

Hi John,

I think you are referring to the Sonny Angels...

http://www.dreams6.com/product/sonnyangel/list_sonnyangel.html

and yes, Charlene I am fortunate to have a couple limited post cards that Christina had made a few years ago (not properly framed). I would love a full size print one of these days!

And please keep in mind when looking at this space that it is a work in progress of an apartment dweller who isn't all that tidy ;) and trying to solve some of the problems of how to deal with all the bits and bobs of collecting and the chaos of a demanding hobby of being a doll seamstress...

Any clutter ridding tips would be really appreciated!

I will have to pop into Edith + Edna in the near future! :)

I love that you have all your supplies out in the open like that...everything looks so pretty and colorful.

Is this the same Tiffany who was such a narrow-minded beeeeatch on the Urban Outfitters thread?

thank god!
u just saved us from the bends over the fact an Amelie lover w/ such a sprite place + the U.O. thread's Tiffany tiff could possibly be the same person.

U might want to differentiate yr name.
:-)

priceless dog pic by the way
