Please tell us more about how you like your flight recliner. Not that I can afford it, but I've casually started looking for a chaise, but maybe a recliner would be better, since it doesn't take up all the floor space a chaise does.

Maybe I just need a couch with arms, instead of the armless one I have now.

So funny - we were at IKEA just the other day looking at the black Kulla floor lamp but wondering if the metal shade made the light act funny - you just can't trust how it seems to shine there in the store. Do I assume correctly that you're happy with the light it gives, dim/bright/in between?

Jr in Sweden - I am very pleased with the light. I have a 100watt IKEA energy-efficient flourescent bulb in the lamp.

Pixie - The flight recliner is great...it was very expensive. The only thing I reconsider is the choice of upholstery. I somewhat wish I would have gone for leather (even more expensive!) or atleast a thicker fabric. The small footprint is fantastic.

Wow, isn't $90 a bit spendy by Ikea standards? I don't think I have ever seen an Ikea floor lamp that cost more than $49.95, and most were in the $19.95 - $39.95 range.

we just bought this lamp and we love it. it's very heavy, so i think the price is a great deal. this is not a flimsy lamp.

my only question is about the lightbulb. we tried using a CFL in it but the dimming function wouldn't work. aaron, am i doing something wrong?

I just installed the ceiling version of this light in my bedroom this weekend! I love it. I was worried the light would be too direct because of the metal shade, but it actually provides a good general light.

Regardless of price, that's a great look for the money.

IKEA has been pushing slightly higher price point items with a much higher quality for a little while now. Check out their Stockholm collection. $90 for this lamp is well worth it—especially considering the closest alternatives for metal shade floor lamps—Bauhaus at CB2 ($150), or Spun at DWR ($1500 ).

Hejiranyc - This might be more expensive than other IKEA lamps but the IKEA value is still there...a similar lamp at CB2 costs $150 (and is not as attractive).
Muro.lamere - Not sure why your CFC bulb isn't working...ours did/does.

Thanks for the clarification- I need to get edumacated on Ikea's new direction, I guess. One thing I am wondering is whether the stem/stalk of the lamp is screw-together, or whether it comes as one monolithic tube. One thing I really disliked about other Ikea floor lamps was that visible seam where you screw the two halves of the stem together...

The floor lamp screws together. 3 pieces I think.

I know that dimmers don't work with fluorescent bulbs, so I would guess that's why the 3-way dimming feature doesn't work. Fluorescents are just on/off, unlike standard bulbs which can modulate.

You can buy dimmable CFL's... They are everywhere...

the downside of ikea lamps is having to buy ikea bulbs...we try to stock up, because a 5 min. ikea trip for lightbulbs isn't possible. Once we walk in, it's 3 hours, minimum!

Why do you have to buy Ikea bulbs? I've had plenty of their lamps and never used their bulbs...
