This is just a gratuitous beauty shot of the big space that we are lucky enough to have in the summer and the hot new chairs we just got last week to replace the odd assortment of hand-me downs we've had for years (we ordered from DWR during the free shipping sale ;-)). Note: We're painting the floors black this weekend to tone down the uber red feeling....
The AVL chairs are sturdy and super comfortable. They are a little low in the seat for dining and we may have to insert a cushion to make up the difference. We do love the way we can hang them off the table or the way you can slide them underneath so that they disappear.

The black will look good, especially when it flakes a bit and shows the red underneath, but the floor now looks awesome. Really love the flaking. You could save yourself some work, and just put a cream/white rag rug under the table to set off the red chairs. And of course, AWESOME chairs!

uber red is brilliant, I would keep...
however the black might be swell once it wears and the red starts peaking thru.
Wowza, I like all the red! I would maybe paint the floor in a super duper dark, dark shade of plum that looks kind of black but isn't.
I think it'll look better having the chairs stand out from the floor.
Make sure you post pics of the new floor!
I thought the gratuitous beauty shot referred to the striking (and pleasant) impact of the red chairs against the red floor.
I also would keep it red which is not something I would normally say.
Oooo, I like Marm's suggestion of a deep, deep plumb, almost black -- would be stunning!
The red floor is great! Why paint over it? You loose the great worn look just to accommodate new chairs? Doesn't make sense to me...

I like it now, but I think the black will look great. Love the chairs--great color!
I can't really tell from the picture, but i think a black floor would make the room look kinda dark and boring. i agree with keeping the red floor and get a rug that will make the chairs stand out. Great room by the way, makes me want to go there.
