Go Rem. Found this photograph of the wood floor in Seattle's new main library, designed by Rem Koolhaas's OMA (though whether the floor was his idea, we don't know), and had to pass it on. It's a great idea to use floorboards to mimic the lines of print in a book while at the same time adding age and history to a brand new building. See bigger pic below. Puh Leeese don't give any more credit to Kolhaas....

Please do credit the Public Art Manager, Barbara Hamilton was involved in the outset of the design. She was responsible for obtaining the commissions for Ann Hamilton -the word embossed wood floor, Gary Hill -line drawings projections, and Tony Oursler's video of talking heads.
Over all I salute Kolhaas design but as a functioning library experience I am skeptical. The ramp is extremely narrow - that ADA minimum does not accommodate the crowds. There is some confusion as to how to get up and out of the lower levels, the elevator is so fast that one could loose their lunch. There is the overall disappointment to Seattle's severe budget cuts and library closures all just to get a 'fancy' library.
