Look!: Vintage Toys as Decoration
Boston

_MG_0181.jpg

We have a friend with a delightful collection of vintage toys. She inspires us by using her toys sparingly to enhance her decor; it never feels over the top. So when we happened upon this old, rolling centipede at the Cambridge Antique Market we were smitten…

According to the antique dealer, this colorful guy was made in Sweden. Of course he was. We nicknamed him Parker and he’s become a favorite among the little ones who visit our apartment.

Do you have any vintage toys that you love to dis(play) with?

I gave one of these to my nephew, but if he ever decided he didn't want it, I'd happily take it back. (There are no letters on the other side...)

Not so much vintage and not year-round (except for a well-used scooter), but I kept a few of my son's (now 21) toys as he outgrew them. Every year at Christmas I decorate a small tree with them: I drilled holes and inserted eye screws into his wooden alphabet blocks and hang them along with various little cars, action figures, etc. and use a small train set to surround it. He still thinks it's a bit corny, but he's learned to just roll his eyes and not comment on my little trees - I also do a beach tree with shells, beach glass and seaweed, a southwest tree (we lived in Arizona for 15 years) with little cacti, geckos, etc., and a Santa tree - we had an ornament exchange every Christmas where I used to work and somehow wound up with a Santa every year.

Why not 'murray'? I'd say that's the way to go...
