A Thai tree grows in MePa. Adding to the gaggle of unique and super chic home stores, Establishment just opened its doors this fall on Gansevoort street. The store is the creation of Ungkun Chanasvangwonk, an interior designer who has realized his dream in being able to showcase his own design as well as that of contemporary designers from his native Thailand:
...a treasure-trove of young, fresh design talent, many of whom have trained in the best European and American design schools and returned home to create a viable design industry in Thailand.

Something that gets up my krall (how do you spell that word???) is all these new neighborhoods that can't come up with a good word to call itself. Now we have MePa. What ever happened to 'hoods called Chelsea, Murray Hill, Hell's Kitchen, etc....? I mean, how stupid is DUMBO - Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass - HAHAHAHAHAHA! That's what I call the bottom of the barrel or "BOB"
Is it possible to provide cross streets for these stores and where is MePa? I've lived in NYC all of my life and have never heard of MePa. Is it the new name for the meatpacking district-that's my best guess.
guest--
You are correct, meatpacking it is.
I happened upon this store on Sunday... and while some of it wasn't exactly my taste, there were some unique and cool items (I did buy a sandalwood scented candle). The owner was there and he was gracious and inviting. The store has potential to be a great source for fabulous apartment items. I will check back soon to see if the owner's promise to constantly have new items arriving is actually the case.
I must visit this store real soon. Look interesting for my new apartment.
