A while ago (six months, a year?) someone posted a tip to a place in Queens (at least I think it was Queens) that had Asian antiques. As a result of that post, I had emailed them and gotten the exact address, hours etc., but I lost the info. I want to go there now -- I am in search of the perfect antique Chinese console table. Does anyone remember it?

I need to finally get around to putting up all my pictures, so I'm searching for very basic, plain black frames (preferably with mats). I know everyone likes the Ikea frames, but they have nonstandard sizes and the trip out to NJ is more hassle than I can bear for a couple of frames. I've looked at West Elm, Crate & Barrel, and AI Friedman - does anyone have any other recommendations for stores where I could get inexpensive picture frames?

I have a wall mounted square sink 20x20. I need a contemporary vanity to go with it. An example of what I like is Kohler's purist

Custom-made vanities are too expensive. Any suggestions about where I can find a small vanity? Thanks.

elchan,

AI Friedman has a frames sale a few times a year and everything is half off. I stocked up last time on simple frames and paid about $50 for 7 frames. Not bad considering IKEA's are $6 each.

Has anyone seen an interesting wall-mounted coat rack for under $30 recently? I was sort of thinking about that metal branch one but maybe less cutesy.

Elchan - try Bed Bath & Beyond. I got a 4 pack of 8x10 black wooden frames with white mattes for $20. They also had quite a good selection of many types of frames reasonably priced.

I don't know whether you've taken a look at Pottery Barn, but their frames are solid wood, and of good quality.

Has anyone seen one of those temporary cheesy Christmas decoration stores pop up in the city yet??? I need to find some of that spray snow for a design project I have due next week and can only find it online.

Ridge van winkle - Try Abracadabra on 21st Street or maybe Ricky's might carry it. I'd call ahead first so you don't waste a trip.

Oh and my bed bath and beyond frames look identical to pottery barn's. I have frames from both places and I'd say they are about the same quality.

nat26 - we re-did our half bath recently and used this Suneli vanity. It hangs and has a fairly roomy cabinet (it's a door, not a drawer). We didn't get the whole set, just the sink/vanity - even though you already have a sink, I believe this comes with it attached but you can check. Although it doesn't come with a faucet. My husband found it locally at a dealer in Queens - I think it was about $650-700 so not crazy expensive for a nice sink/vanity and we just added a simple chrome faucet. Here's the link.

Good luck!

The chandelier is now up. It turned into more of an adventure than I planned, but it’s up. I can now go back to my regularly interrupted cure.

Thanks so much for your help! I'd originally written off AI Friedman, but I popped by after work today and lo and behold - the fall frames sale is on! I got some nice metal frames and will probably go back for more ~

I have a Hemnes chest of drawers, and the darn thing is coming apart at the joint between the leg and the body (where the dowels/metal screws are supposed to keep it together) all the way down from the top of the unit. Does anyone know the most effective way to keep the side attached so it doesn't shift and cause all the drawers to fall? I'm not beyond putting some screws into the front leg from the outside in to "clamp" everything in place, but do i need to use particleboard screws or any other special kind of equipment? I've tried wood glue but it doesn't seem to hold!

Thanks.

Hi.

We have an 18' x 14' kitchen/dining area in a single room that we're totally remodeling. Our kitchen will have a 6x4 island that will have the sink, d/w, and cabinets. The island will also function to visually delimit the "kitchen" and "dining" areas of the room.

Question: do we put pendants over the island or do recessed lighting? Is this just a matter of taste?

Thanks.
Aaron

a matter of taste, but you might consider which is easier to deal with when you have to change the bulbs
