I have searched the internet for a yellow area rug (5 x 8).
We're looking for a sunflower yellow (that orangey deep yellow color) area rug.

I bet it'll be all the rage next year:)

Any ideas??

Thanks.

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on framing magazines. I like to keep them when my favorite artists are on the covers. Stuff like Rolling Stone and Stop Smiling. I was planning on using the same frames for all of them once I found one that works. Or does it seem like it would look too tacky?

Mike, who cares, if you like it do it. Good luck and don't forget to post pictures.

Hey Robbin I have been looking for a yellow (sunfloweryellow) ROUND rug all over here in Belgium and have not found anything that comes near to it...

Pommette, I know, I have scoured the internet and there's one rug with a South Western motif that has a deep/bright yellow background. There are also shag rugs that might be close in color but, we don't want shag (or South Western.)

We have a blueish/black sofa and think it would look so striking next to it.

robbin, try csnrugs.com - huge selection, FREE shipping (in the US, don't know where you are!), and you can search by colour, size, material etc. I use them a lot for my interior design clients.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

We are struggling with wall colors and how they effect perception within a room. We really like a fairly dark mocha that leans a little more towards gray than towards a red, but we are afraid it will make the room look smaller. The room in question is our combination living room dining room that opens up into the kitchen. We live in a brownstone and the room spans the front of the apartment and includes 3 windows and is approximately 20 feet deep from the windows to the wall on the shallowest side is approximately 10 feet and it is about 16 feet from the windows to the kitchen countertop that bisects the space.

The floor is a lighter oatmeally carpet (soon to be replaced by wood), and currently the ceiling is white (ceiling comments welcome).

So what do you think, will the color make the room smaller?

I should have said - will the color make the room FEEL smaller?

Hey ATers,
Does anyone have any ideas or intel on continuing to rent an apt. in the city while purchasing a vacation home in a cheaper real estate market? We were thinking of doing this in SF, and know that it's a popular move in the NY market too.
Any good website out there on making this happen?
Thanks,
Rebecca

EastVillageAmy, I came here to pose the same question. Fall cure? When when? There are great posts today on AT about de-cluttering etc but I want to save my discard-appetite for the big cure...haven't seen any announcements.

bexblack32, are you talking about keeping your rental as you live in the vacation home seasonally? You could sublet your apartment during the times you're away. Check with your rental management company on what's allowed. You can set up the sublet so that it's from say July 1 to September 1. I won't go further since I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I've subletted my apartment in NYC and although paperwork is involved, it worked great!

jendavid99 and EastVillageAmy - for a jump start before the cure, you guys should buy the book! it's more in-depth than what you get on the site (as wonderful as it is). I refer to it from time to time to help motivate me to do purgings and repainting and reorganizing and so on. Then, by the time the next Cure comes around, you've got less to work on week by week.

Hey again ATers--

anyone have any knowledge of buying a second place in an affordable market while still renting in the city? i've heard of a lot of new yorkers doing this?

thanks, heather leaf.

we live in san francisco, and are considering buying a home in sonoma county while keeping our city apt. because of its great rent-control. we can't afford to buy in san francisco. we'd use the new place to telecommute from, probably 2 nights a week on average.

Does anyone have a reccomendation or favorite brand of power tools? I'm finally looking to tackle some of those improvement projects I've been putting off, but am basically a power tool virgin. I'm thinking of investing in a power drill and sander, nothing too heavy duty. I was leaning towards Black and Decker, because of the name mostly, but I borrowed one from a friend to hang curtains and the battery completely died on me and failed to recharge. I hear this is a problem with the brand. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I just got the AT email and apparently the Cure starts tomorrow! Kind of abrupt, usually there is a countdown to let us know it's coming, but glad it's starting anyway.

And thanks Heatherleaf, I have the book, it's great! I'm more excited this go round because I'll have a new apartment to work with, meaning more time arranging and decorating and less time scrubbing, purging and repairing!

Can't believe after all the past seasons of "the cure" I'm finally signing up and will definitely get the book, too.

Sarah, they are a little pricey but I would go with Milwaukee, they are great. You should be able to get a great drill that will last you a very long time for under $200. I haven't tried them yet but Rigid (sp?) power tools come with a free lifetime warranty which also covers the batteries. I try to stick with one brand when I get stuff like that, that way I can buy a few batteries and chargers that work for all of my stuff.
