Didden Village: Blue Rooftop Escape in Rotterdam
The New York Times 7.6.08

The eye-popping blue addition is the work of architect Winy Maas of MVRDV. By adding house-shaped bedrooms to the roof of the existing apartment, Maas was able to make existing urban space "work harder." The New York Times Magazine shows us this imaginative family space that includes individual spiral staircases for each bedroom!...

The interior looks great but I would hate to see this blue from my window.

Any word on how hard it is to move furniture up a tight staircase like that? Ouch.

I love love love it. My only question about the design is that don't three individual staircases take up quite a bit of the newly-created space?

The sofa in their living room looks like it's straight out of a Nuni and Nooni Schoener sketch on Saturday Night Live. Imagine carrying on a conversation from the middle seat...

too much blue-the blue walls and floor is just oversaturation, plus whenever I see stuff like this, I always wonder how it will weather; the outside part, unless it is some seriously heavy duty paint will begin to flake and peel after some cold wet weather. I can't imagine having to scrape, sand and repaint all of that.

The concept is cool but I think the bright overwhelming blue is a bad idea. It looks like it was "stuck onto" the top of the city, and not in a good way.
