Can you guess where we found this table setting?...

We found this little set-up on the street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We had no idea what sort of event had taken place here, but it certainly brightened our day.

It made us think about how we, as New Yorkers with little personal space, appropriate public spaces for private use. Central Park, for example, has long been thought of as every New Yorker's backyard. Do you have a public space that you've co-opted for personal living?

Charming, and what makes a neighborhood more of a community.

Love the recycled headboard used as a table.

Hmm, that's not actually a public space, is it?

I truly don't understand. I believe the youngsters would call this "ghetto", meaning something thrown together, and not a good substitute for the real thing. Is space so limited that a romantic setting is next to a pile of garbage bags with a wrinkled napkin on top of a dirty rug thing? Am I spoiled because I have the luxury of a patio and grass (and out of the way dumpsters)? I'm being very serious here.. I just don't get it.
