apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Refrigerator Makeover
Boston

fridgemath.jpg

Since we'll be sticking close to home most of the summer (our neighbors call this a staycation), we thought we'd use the time to summer-ize our kitchen a little. With the way the soggy weather has been the past few weekends, we took advantage of an unusually sunny Saturday and tackled the refrigerator first. Check out the results after the jump!

Now that's more like it!

We love our Amana refrigerator because it takes panels, but instead of making it match the cabinets, we cut a plywood board to fit so that we could change it to strike our mood (up until last weekend it was chalkboard). It's simple to slide out and paint (just 4 screws).

...although never content to leave things for too long, we have a plan for its next makeover when we get tired of red. This door mural looks like it might fit perfectly, especially with the bottom freezer.

color: Benjamin Moore Red

Yes! I painted my fridge with black chalkboard paint and I love it! The shopping list can be written right on the side!
This way,we won't buy new until this one breaks and we can deal with how it looks now!

I've painted loads of fridges with really good and easy results. I did one in camouflage and one like a cow. Back in the days of no digital camera, darn.

I love the chalkboard idea, which I will have to try myself.

To get the speckled finish look on a fridge, use a roller!

I liked the black. I like the red. I don't even want to see it when you put the horse mural up. I don't do cutesy.

I'm presently converting my fridge into an old steamer trunk. In appearance only, of course. Great old brass fittings from eBay. What fun!

Ahhhh!!! Love the horse! Since the panels are switchable the whimsy doesn't hurt your resale value... my god rock it.

I now REALLY want a hysterical Mr. Ed mural for MY fridge. I would talk to him while i made my morning smoothie... makes me miss the farm.

That horse mural would be really funny in a serious minimalist kitchen, the kind where it looks like you could double-up and do heart surgery on the counters...

It's really good to see people re-using stuff, remodelling, instead of acting like toddlers with short attention spans!

Prefer the chalkboard personally. The red makes it look like a tool-cupboard. However, I always like the idea of creating bespoke designs for kitchen furniture. You just can't find kitchen suppliers who would do something like that for you...especially the mural.
