I haven't been to a Petland Discounts in several years, but I doubt I ever will again. Every one I've been to has been a disgusting, depressing place with their animals kept in absolutely horrific conditions.

Multiple rabbits crammed into tiny, filthy cages; tanks filled 3" deep with white mice (and their babies), some alive, many dead; turtles with obvious skin diseases and no apparent food supply. They actively (and admittedly) engage in "culling" overbred animals by freezing. I could go on...and this is without even mentioning their parent company's involvement with the bottom-of-the-barrel puppy mill breeders.

I love the idea of Pet Month at AT, but why post what amounts to an advertisement for a huge chain of pet stores that are well known for being contributors to the most cruel, inhumane aspects of the pet industry? Looking at the comments from the first time Maxwell posted this should be a tip-off that it might be worth looking into whether or not giving the company even MORE positive exposure is really ethical.

I don't care if they have a lot of locations or good prices when those facts are taken in true context!

I think - No, I am positive - that I will never set one foot or spend one dollar in an establishment that sells animals under those conditions. Never. And I'm disappointed in AT for even making a post about them.

when i first got my cat i shopped at the PD outlet on Delancey Street between Orchard & Ludlow (here in NYC) because they were close to home.

they closed and i was disappointed because they were conveniently nearby. but now i am so thankful they did close because i have since discovered the wonderful, small, independent places here in the Lower East Side which sell such high-quality, organic products.

never again will i go to Petland Discounts or any other chain!

the petland near me, upper westside, never alternated in atmosphere, it was always depressing. I am anti chain and always shop at the independent shops. as a result i must go to multiple stores, one for food and treats, trixie and peanut and doggie style on thompson street for toys and harnesses.
the one multi-store company i go to is barneys for leashes and collars, their basic collar and leash come in great colors.

I would never shop at Petland, and I can't believe this place is being re-reviewed.

Why would you keep trying to find the "good" location of an otherwise terrible chain?

Their puppies are from puppy mills and they will lie and tell you otherwise.
No need to ever buy a kitten from this kind of place or any petstore.
Petsmart and Petco both work with local non kill shelters in the cities they are based in to adopt cats.

I worked at a Petland for a very short span of time. The conditions their animals are kept in are absolutely deplorable... and what goes on in the stock room is even worse. I saw more than one poor animal die with nothing I could do about it, because reporting them got nowhere, and if I were to remove an animal to take them to the vet, my b***h of a boss would report it stolen - ensuring that none of her employees ever double-crossed her.

I'm disappointed that AT would post about this place. Any "pet store" that sells animals is horrible - they're all from puppy mills, or kittens that are dumped on their doorstep by people who are too stupid to spay their cats. Which they make 100% profit on. They'll even forge vaccination records.

For every dog you buy at a pet store, sad as they may look in the window, you condemn their mother to a lifetime of pain and suffering at the hands of a mill owner.

Geez, why not just advertise puppy mills!? Seriously, Petland Discount??? Maxwell, seriously!!??
