Faux Bois Mirror

We can't decide if we like this octagonal Faux Bois Mirror — something about it is off, while something else is intriguing. Made of resin, it's $249.99 at West Elm. Check out the room photos...

It's amazing how different it looks in the two room settings. The top photo it is very large and demands your attention. In the second photo it melts into the room. Via decor8.

It looks kind of a like a yogurt-dipped pretzel.

Well first, it's an octagon. Not exactly the most organic shape--kinda enhances the *faux* part....

I think I like the second setting best. Not sure why.

It looks like dried toothpaste.

Too many "sprouts" and that white is too white, but I still like it. I'd just have to paint it a much rustic paste color.

you all crack me up!

It bothers me too, for me it is the octogan shape. Just does not work in my opinion.

It looks like one of those plastic "plaster" items that you paint yourself to add a "decorative accent" to your home. Only someone forgot to paint it.

It looks vaguely intestinal.

Looks like a gussied up stop sign also not the size is what does not work for me. Perhaps if it were bigger, much bigger it would have more of an impact. Def not worth the $$.

Sorry, meant to say "the size is what doesn't work for me".

these descriptions are so clever and funny - I'm sitting here cracked up!

I think I'd like it better against a plain white wall or a painted lighter wall, not against more texture like stone and grasscloth - it doesn't seem to be a texture that works with other textures well.

I like the "idea" of an octagonal mirror with embellished branch frame. But here, I think it looks sloppy, which I think is why you feel it's off.

it looks like spackle that hasn't been smoothed out. i think it's just ugly.

It looks like a grade-school arts and crafts project.

Too faux, not enough bois?

I alternate between feeling itchy and feeling waves of nausea, especially in the second setting.

It's rather "Wearstler", isn't it? Would look better in a more amorphic, organic shape and i think the ratio between mirror size and thickness of the "wood" is off. In short, "no".

that thing is hideous.

It looks dead; faux bois BTW is a technique by which one paints a surface to look like real wood, hence brown, striations, knots and/or burls. This isn't really faux bois. It's more like a lump of plaster that is misshappen. Icky.

It's wrapped around a stop sign? It's definitely not worth more than $50.

Have you ever had a project idea that looked fantastic in your mind's eye, and when you finally made it, it turned out perfect?

This isn't one of those.

ad and ann are on to something. the concept of the mirror is so appealing, but the execution falls short of what it could be. too bad.
