We recently visited the new Columbia Heights (DC) Target, and were relieved to see that they've finally managed to stock up on home accessories. When the Columbia Heights store first opened they couldn't keep enough items on the shelves. We even caught someone trying to swipe a $4 candle-holder from our shopping cart! Granted, it was the last one, but we were still surprised. Has this ever happened to you at Target or another store? More in-stock Target items below the jump...

Target has nice lamps I think. Target is a good place to shop just as long as you don't over do it, then you run the risk of people coming to your home saying "you bought that at target right?" lol

Target is a great go-to place for cheap home things when you need a party. I got some awesome looking cheese tools with heavy marble handles, some white salt and pepper shakers in the shape of birds on a branch, a clear acrylic beverage tub that looks pretty modern, some long white platters, and a set of stemless wine glasses in on the cheap.
It also has a decent selection of bedding - their luxury line by Fieldcrest actually has very nice sheets - I got a set of white sheets and after three years they are just now starting to show wear. They are the softest sheets I've ever had.

Are you kidding? I freaking love Target... I will voluntarily tell people my stuff is from there. There aren't many nice stores in my area so it's nice to be able to get cute things right around the corner.
Ours is always fully stocked and nicely so too. I'm in the Detroit area btw (which might explain a few things)

I think the black & white patterned ottoman might be a great choice for my bedroom but I would want to check out the quality first. I try to keep my bed linens solid with my patten coming in through pillows and artwork so it might work well in my small space.
I also like the photo montage frame in the bottom left with rounded corners. I would love to pick out some of my photos and create a gradient of color going across it.
Having a gift certificate always helps :P And I agree with the above poster. All department stores have great finds but in moderation or else your space ends up too cookiecutter.

i'm so glad this particular target is beefing up their inventory. the first time i went there i was a little disappointed. as a friend from mississippi said, it was just a target, not a tar-jay.

Pistachio, we have the same problem with a shoddy inventory at the Targets in the Bronx and Brooklyn...the cute stuff does not stay on the shelves for too long! If you're feeling adventurous you should trek out to the Target Greatland in Silver Spring, they always had a great selection when I was living in the area a few years ago during college.

yes, Brooklyn frequently has empty shelves

I'm just still thrilled beyond sense to have a Target that I can walk or metro to. The ones in the burbs are vaster and have lots more stuff, but there aren't other places like this in the city.

I have found some nice stuff at target in the home accessories section. I am actually currently writing this post on one of a pair of thomas o'brien wood end tables that I got on sale a couple of years ago. they are perfect--dark wood bottom, leather top, and an interesting shape.
also, the lamp selection is pretty great. I bought a bedside lamp at crate and barrel a while ago and found the exact same lamp, not just a copy but the exact same box and everything at target about a week later for around 1/2 the price.
I think it is the same as any other store--if you have good taste you can find things that work and look good. and if you don't have taste, you can find plenty of things that will look bad.

The first Target just opened up here in Baltimore (the city, not the county) and I've found that everything is pretty much stocked and ready to go, especially the snack and drink aisles. Although I just drove by the Target in Columbia Heights (DC), I agree with Pixie that I am thrilled that there is a Target that I can walk to. I'm also glad that Target is putting stores in historically underserved areas.

Actually, in the case of Columbia Heights, Target is putting a store in a historically underserved area only after the historically underserved people have been pushed out.

I was so frustrated with the stocking problems for the DC target. After a little more research and borrowing my boyfriend's car I've determined that the "Skyline" target...

...generally has the best selection available. When you went to the Colombia Heights Target recently did you happen to notice if they had restocked their clothing or shoes sections as well? That would be news indeed!

Sarah Lindsey: I thought the clothing section was still lacking and didn't check out the shoes.

targets great, but only if youre place doesnt turn into one big target showroom. i buy things here and there, mostly less unique items like bed sheets and kitchen items. their bamboo sheets have got to be the softest sheets ive ever owned, and with a good price too! now if they only had them in store in solid white. :<

Target is a great resource for lamps. I got two very sleek architect lamps ($50 each) which are of very good quality. In fact the same lamps sell elsewhere for double or triple the price. Problem is that the best items sell out very quickly. But sometimes you can find them at the online store.

i haven't had anyone swipe anything out of my buggy (that i know of), but i did have someone swipe my buggy once. while i was browsing, they emptied my few soon-to-be-purchases & stacked them on a shelf & took the *!! cart. losers.
