This morning's edition is about getting a little more from the Farmer's Market. Native flowers are cropping up, and they can be a fun way to fill out a bouquet for just a few dollars. While the peonies, above, were the bulk of the cost, the buttercups were only $3 or $4 for a large bundle. Each week seems to bring a new variety in from the field, something you might remember from your own childhood if it was spent out in the country...

We're sending a shout-out to all of you who bring home flowers to brighten up your home. Do YOU have some Sat. morning flowers to share? Let me know! You can drop a line with a small description and some pics at matt at apartment therapy dot com

Lily of the valley and cornflowers also were at the markets these past weeks - all only a few bucks for a bunch. While the bulk of my weekly flower budget would go to one or two bunches of something more dramatic, like the peonies from James Durr or the beautiful double tulips from Jack's Flowers, these bunches of field flowers would be a fun addition.
And although I did not grow up with some, the buttercups are a flower that I did always see out in the fields - they never made it inside, let alone to a vase. But as little kids we used to rub them under our chins because we were told they would leave them yellow. And they did - we were an easy audience.
It's a hot one this weekend, take care and use your sunscreen!

what lovely flowers. How nice it is to bring the colours of nature into the city-where the hardness of the structures made by man can so dehumanise.Every corner should have a flower girl.

I wish I could get away with selling buttercups here, I'd be rich. They do look nice with the dark peonies.

Ooooh, those peonies are gorgeous! The buttercups are cute too. They really help brighten everything up.
I remember picking the random buttercups that grew around the neighborhood and rubbing them under my chin. I forget what the point of it was though, haha!
Something about "if it leaves a yellow mark it means something"... I forget what that something is. Anyone remember?
