PlantTherapy: Simply Inspired Arrangements

2008-07-12Martha4.jpg

Anyone planning a summer party or wedding? For those of you looking for floral inspiration that's not too difficult to pull off, take a look at these arrangements from Martha Stewart's mail-order line.

The flower choices are simple, and the vase choices add so much to the overall arrangement. The faux bois vase (above) and the square ceramic bamboo vase were especially nice...

Launched this past spring, (these pictures are from the NASDAQ launch party she had here in Manhattan) they were designed with seasonal flower choices and vase designs that are taken right from Martha's own collection.

The flower choices are seasonal. Keeping the varieties simple and colors similar helps the arragements hold together almost effortlessly.

The entire collection is on 1800flowers.com and worth a look to get ideas.

If you are interested in the vases they all are located separately on this page. Although the vases look great, do not expect the craftsmanship to blow you away - they were manufactured to keep the mail order price as reasonable as they could. That said, it beats the pants off of the usual cheap clear glass vase.

The Tree Stump Planter is cute too. From the pictures, we can see the weakness of the faux bois vase reproduction. The bamboo is not more realistic but for unknown reasons seem to look better. If you use the vases with dimmed lights or on a high shelf, people will not notice these details. Like you said, the goal was to keep the price down.

I would love to see an AT feature on vases, sometime. When it comes to pots and pans, for example, I know the basic sizes and shapes I need. But a primer on five essential vase sizes/shapes would be very helpful to me!
