apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

UES Quality Of Life Officially Over Until 2009

upper east side.gifHere goes the Yuppy Ghetto. With constuction on the new second avenue subway slated to begin next December, the MTA is on the verge of taking control of sidewalks on the upper east side.

In addition to the construction lasting up to 5 years on the 8.5 mile line, sidewalk space is being taken over by construction equipment which will mean the removal of a significant number of outdoor restaurants, bike racks, planters and cellars.

Not only will business suffer and some shops get evicted, it will either make rental apartments on the UES either intolerable or even more fabulously low in rent. MGR
