Dear AT,
We will soon be turning our second room into a combo baby room/study.
To appease our neighbors, we will be putting down carpet.
Can anyone recommend a good carpeting source in Manhattan or Brooklyn?
Note: we will be re-painting the room a color TBD (probably a light turquoise to bring out the colors in our tribal Moroccan rug) and then have to do some serious weeding and re-arranging (i.e. wine cooler will move to kitchen) to make room for both baby and desk.
Thanks! Virginia

ummm..."To appease our neighbors, we will be putting down carpet" wait for it....huh???
unfortunately, i do not have a source for you carpet wise, but the appeasement struck me as odd. anyway, that room appears well suited as a new baby room especially with the light it appears to get (nice) tho the color of the room already seems pretty nice. meh...

put down a larger rug, like the one you have with a decent pad underneath, and tell your neighbors that you are aesthetically opposed to carpet (and that they should get used to living in ny)

I agree - get a wall to wall large jute rug with a thick pad and it'll block out just as much sound as carpeting. i'd also ask for a donation from said downstairs neighbors for the padding....

what's wrong with carpeting? neighbors or not, it works for a baby's room. you want soft and cozy and a nice large area rug (leaving 12" or so of wood floor all around) or wall to wall is the way to go to make little feet happy. if you really want to keep the moroccan, go with solid wool sisal underneath (easier to clean and way softer than jute).

Carpet, and pad well. Nice for baby and neighbors, and it's important to keep both happy.

go to www.homedecorators.com they have a huge selection of rugs. Also, you can buy a great rug for way less than anything in NYC.

try FLOR carpet tiles (Flor.com). you can customize to your size and the pieces are washable. just take out the piece that got dirty and rinse right under the sink.

I have gotten good results from ABC outlet for large rugs,
and on Ebay... Ebay is WAY cheaper for smaller rugs.

I got my big old huge silk rug at ABC Carpet and Home and love it. It was originally marked $8,000 and then marked down to $3,500. A friend talked them down to $3,000 for me, and I bought it, although even that was kind of a lot of money for me, but I do love it.
