CH 07 Shell Chair by Hans Wegner

2004_11_22_wegner3.jpgSaw this chair at a friend's house and thought, "Cool shape. Bet it's uncomfortable."

It was not so.

On sitting down, the Wegner CHO7 turned out to be supremely comfortable with a soft leather padded seat and a shape that seems to support you all around. We could imagine gravitating towards this chair in order to read or go through mail. It is that comfortable.

Available from Troy, Zeitgeist and Hive Modern ($1988), it comes in red, white oak and black with a choice of leather or fabric upholstery options with a lacquer or oiled finish. (Thanks, John!)

Is it more comfortable than a padded Eames LCM?

oh that aqua -- it's swimming pool, the hallway of my childhood apt and summer all rolled in one. especially with the tile floor. what a wonderful color for a closet with an interior light!

(the chair looks uncomfortable, one of those chairs that i would not sit in for fear of awkwardness when i get up.)

FYI, I have ordered several items, both large and small, from Hive Modern and have been more than happy with their selection of goods, service, price and shipping (free for most items).

Rasil, not that I lived your childhood, but I love that aqua too. It's lighting. I'd like to know how it was lit or what was hung in the windows to cast such a glow throughout the space.

Gotta get track lighting with theatrical gels in all sorts of colors, including aqua. Aqua for the hot days. Yellows and oranges and reds for the cold, overcast, foggy, drizzle days in S.F. (yeah, it drizzled and rained today).

Everything in the house could be pure white. And change colors with the lighting. Ahhhhhhhhh. Double-ahhhhhhhh

For 2K, it better come with Sven the masseur, or Sir HadYaGlad in leather.

I saw a chair almost exactly like that in the local Fred Meyer (big-box grocery + housewares store) the other day, and was surprised too at the comfort of that somewhat odd shape. I suppose it wouldn't last as long as the hans wegner, but then again, at under $100, you might not need it to. :)

Just saw this chair @ ICFF. It's distributed by Dennis Miller. I tried it, it's perfect and it looks spectacular.
