NY Good Questions: Sleeper Sofa For A Big Guy?

1.10room.jpgHello AT,

I need a Sleeper Sofa for a BIG guy.

I just moved into a studio apartment that I love.

But my first of many challenges in making it a home is a finding a comfortable sleeper sofa that fits into my limited space and at the same time can accommodate my large frame.

Of course I would like it to be reasonably priced and have some style to it. (Most sleepers look like blocks of wood).

Any suggestions?

Thanks! Ren

seems like for suggestions you might want to give your dimensions? height, weight, waist line, so people can get an idea of your size.

i'm 6'2" and weigh 210, so when i think of a big guy, i think of my friend who is 7'2" and fills a door when he ducks through it. bit of a different idea if my 5'2" wife thinks of a big guy.

I think you should submit a photo of yourself.

Go with a real bed. Forgo the sofa if you must.

Srsly, just buy a normal bed and camo it with screens, bookcases, curtains...something. You'll get a much better night's sleep than on any sleeper sofa and thus less likely to angrily smoosh us little people when we get in your way.

And really, how unsexy is that moment when you bring someone home and have to undue the sofa before getting your busy on.

I think I might give one of the comfort sleepers from American Leather or au a try. They come in a "real" queen or king size and from my experience seem very comfortable. Not the cheapest thing out there, but maybe worth a look.

How about a murphy bed?

If this is your every night bed, you may want to consider a trick I saw years ago in a teenagers room. the bed had a coverlet over it and a large C-shaped foam cutout that had been covered in the same fabric as the coverlet. During the day the foam piece sat on top and made the bed a sofa.

If its only for when family/guests arrive look at armless couches, then you can let your feet hang off the end and not be squished up. Crate and barrel used to do one, which i have slept on many nights with family in town.....

murphy beds are cool!

Room and Board and DWR carry sleeper sofas in memory foam, and they take up a lot less room when pulled out so you don't bump your knees. i've seen them around a lot lately and are much much more comfortable than our traditional sleeper-creaker sofa that i just bought.
