They didn't stand out for their cool shape and color (there was a lot of cool stuff around), they stood out because of the little LED that winked in a sweet green and red light from the right side. Anyone else's finger OR another finger on your hand and the little light stays on and the lock won't let up. The technology is so seamless and aesthetically pleasing that we wanted to find a use for this in our home, though we had none. You just want to keep testing it.
The big breakthrough here is that technology can be subtle and beautiful. We predict that we will see much more of this sort of thing, integrated for beauty and that "alive" feeling, as well as function.
Glide makes larger file cabinets with the same technology, which can be programmed (via Bluetooth) to open many ways. Or, you could trick the machine by using latent prints, or the finger of the owner, etc.
Don't think that just because it uses modern technology that it is secure.
Personally, I'd rather have a lock and key, at least then I wouldn't have to plug in my file cabinet.
