BERGSBO Cabinet from IKEA

4-2-bergsbo-cabinet-2.jpgWaiting patiently for the Red Hook IKEA, I still needed my seasonal IKEA fix. On my most recent visit to Elizabeth, I put the new BERGSBO cabinet on my list of purchases to consider. The picture on the left is a bit tight — anyone who has ever been to the Elizabeth IKEA knows it is one of the most-crowded and thrown-together IKEAs in the country. In addition to its striking red color (also available in white) and glass shelves, the price can't be beat...

The BERGSBO cabinet is available in red or white and is only $269! Because all of the eight shelves are glass, one of IKEA's interior cabinet lights would be a great upgrade to show off a collection.

I just bought 2 of these (one was by accident b/c the saleswoman at Ikea rang us up for an extra one). I must say, we were pretty pissed after realizing we had 2, but they're actually pretty handsome and spacious cabinets. There are a ton of glass shelves, and you can customize where you want them. The only drawback (as with all ikea furniture), is that it's really unstable, and you might have to bolt it to the wall if there aren't any heavy books or something to weigh it down inside.

You know, it might be worthwhile to continue driving past the horrible Elizabeth Ikea and go to the one in Philly. It is right near Penn's Landing, smack dab in the middle of Olde City, South Street, Rittenhouse Square, and Philadelphia's music scene. (I recommend Serrano for dinner and the Tin Angel for music)
That way, you can shop in a much more comfortable Ikea setting, and do almost anything else you want.
Just for the record, I love New York, but don't underestimate Philadelphia. You won't be sorry.

Oh, and I love the cabinet, too, especially in red.

If you have access to a car or are in upper Manhattan, I recommend the Paramus Ikea. You can get a bus from the GW Bridge station. It's like Ikea heaven compared to Elizabeth--much less crowded. Drawback: It's not open on Sundays.

I have seen these in person, and was struck by them as well - they are great. And the doors, when closed, are flush with the rest of the cabinet... no knobs or anything else are required to fuss it up. I'll be getting this.

I agree with bluelittlegirl. The Philadelphia Ikea is a great place to shop. It's not nearly as crowded as some of the other Ikea stores that I've been to and it's always a pleasure to shop there. Re: the Bergsbo cabinet, I love the way it looks! The red one is really striking and beautiful.

Umm ... pardon me if this sounds dense, but how do you open the doors if they're flush and don't have pulls?

I'd imagine they're the magnetic push to open, push to close type doors.

I'm always leery of large IKEA furniture. I just think that if it's not put together with exact precision it'll fall apart when the first book is place on it. Remember that commercial where the woman comes in and tosses her keys onto a shelving unit and the unit collapses? That must have been an IKEA piece.

Other than that, it's a good "looking" piece.

I HATE the Elizabeth IKEA. Hate it hate it hate it. So unbearably overcrowded and I've never yet gone and not had some guy yell at me for being in his way. I get zipcar and go out to the Long Island one ... it's kinda so so.

I really miss living near the Pittsburgh store. It's a good one.

Yep, they are magnetic click-open, click-close doors.

Any Ikea is great if you go during business hours when everyone else is at work. I sail in, get my (well researched items), and sail back out!
