$349 for a basic shelf unit? This is the one thing I hate about West Elm...it's cute stuff but it's way over priced. Anybody can build the same thing with some wood, stain, and nails in a day for under $50. And I think that's exactly what I'm gonna do. If I made that exact same shelf console and asked $349, people would laugh and walk away.

I agree, pricing on these little bookshelves and some of their wood veneer pieces can be quite high. Some things (lighting) there are totally price justified, but these things....I'll wait for Ikea to make it?

What does everybody think they might pay for this? I think it might be doable @ $199. But $349 is crazy.

I am continually surprised at how frequently AT promotes stuff from West Elm while at the same time talking about green this green that. It has been well documented that they do not get their lumber from sustainable sources. And considering how cheaply made the stuff actually is and thus how short a life it has, buying from West Elm is the epitome of wastefulness.
IF AT had a genuine interest in promoting green living, which it seems to, there should be no promotion of those that are the worst offenders!
