apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Front Door Storage by Lee Stanlier

03.27.door.jpg

We have absolutely no place for a landing strip in our apartment. That's why a tipoff to this front door storage by Lee Stanlier caught our attention.

The design is made of polished aluminum and includes hooks for keys, ledges for cell phone or whatever else, slots for the mail, and hooks for scarves or jackets. This wall-mounted system could work for us or anyone else out there without the space for a more substantial landing strip.(via Gizmodo and AT reader, Alex)

Interesting idea- although less attractive/sturdy, the many Ikea kitchen rail systems would probably accomplish the same goal for less. This approach was also taken by one of the recent bathroom month submissions, I believe.

Is this magnetic?? Then it could just go right on the metal front door that most NYC apartments feature!

Is this thing actually for sale? I googled it (and followed the link provided here) and it seems that the whole world has blogged it but no one is actually selling it. Where can it be had, and for how much?

I'm with you palousian. Is this the concept car of entryway storage?

I would really like to know if ikea still sells that magnetic entryway storage piece. I think it is white with red trim. I think it had a little clock on it and a little nook to put keys. I don't even know what it's called so I just describe it to the ikea employees and they're not sure what it is. This thing would be perfect to cover up my electrical box which is right inside my front door. I would mount it to a piece of wood or plastic and have it hinged so I can access the electrical box. Kind of like the classic picture frame hiding the safe.

Art, I saw that thing at Ikea about a week ago.

I'm with Eeeck, this would be a great use of an Ikea rail system. Rethinking my landing strip plans now...

Hopefully someone will post the Ikea info here. This is a great item to have.

I have the ikea rails with the hooks and cubbies. Aesthetically nowhere near this wall system and franklin a pain in the butt to get the hooks in and move them around. I tried searching ikeas site but couldn't find it. It's sold in the kitchen section when you go to the store. Trust me folks, looks nothing like this. It's used to hand kitchen tools and the cubbies are chubby. Then again, it depends if you have the money. The choice would be obvious.
