The Cemia from Ligne Roset is large, and pretty cool. Also crazy expensive, which is why I've only gazed at it from afar for a year. Bludot makes a modulicious (I think it's called) wardrobe, but I can't commit to that look. Ikea has tons of such things, but I take it the questioner is asking for more interesting design and longer lasting material than you find in a pax wardrobe. I'd be interested in the same thing.

I just moved into a new apartment and had a similar need for a wardrobe that wasn't too big, but would hold a lot of clothing. I ended up going with that MANDAL 2 door, 4 drawer wardrobe from IKEA (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30121265). It is reasonably priced at $499. I'm not thrilled with the expanse of black on the front, but am planning on adding a bold stencil to it in the future.

It might not be large enough, but you could hunt for an old upright steamer trunk wardrobe. I see them occasionally on craigslist for under $100, and they are extremely well made.

I recently went through a long search for a nice, large wardrobe as the closet in my bedroom is pretty small. It wouldn't have been big enough for me anyways, so my boyfriend uses the whole thing, and I went on a hunt for a wardrobe. I ended up buying an antique deco-y one on ebay. I couldn't see it first as it was in Oklahoma (I live in New York), but it turned out splendidly. It was $600 (with the freight shipping and delivery) and it looks beautiful.

If you don't mind a more old-fashioned design, there are usually a lot of victorian through art deco wardrobes for sale on craigslist for really cheap (the hassle of moving I guess). At least where I am -- it may be different in your city.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming. I've considered the Ikea Mandal (with a new paint job) and also banks of lockers stripped back to the bare metal to give a stainless look.

The Blu Dot is nice but is not sold in Australia, where I am.

I like the boconcept wardrobes. Full sized and very pretty.
