NY Good Questions: Bedside Table for This Bed?

2.4table.jpgHello AT,

I am hoping for ideas for interesting bedside tables to pair with the bed pictured.

The headboard is light ash and fairly large, so traditional wood nightstands might feel too heavy in a smaller room?

We need something not too wide, so drawers or shelves would be nice, but aren't critical.

I'm having a hard time deciding what would fit, so any ideas would really be appreciated.

Thanks! Ell

I think a round side table would look great. Maybe in a color? Or depending on the decor of your room a mirrored table might look nice. I saw some great round ones with one drawer at Target of all places.

Dimensions would be nice. Height/width of bed and the width of the wall the headboard goes on.

You could used almost anything. Plant stands, telephone tables, tv trays...

A draped table.
A glass and silver metal side table.
A lacquered (white or a color) cube or Parson's style table.
Saarinen white marble Tuilp side tables.

I'm a fan of a simple shelf and not to be too matchy I would use ash. A local woodworking shop should be able to help you out on the cheap. I love being able to see under my bed to the other side and a standing table or chest would muck up that line.

Care to divulge where the bed came from? I love it!

I love the idea of a round, tulip-style table. Don't know what your decor or budget are, but Ikea has a few round tables (including one that has a shelf) in all different styles, all under $100.

This one from CB2 is pretty neat, too:

Plus, it comes in orange, if you're looking for a pop of color.

Ooh, this is so exciting! I just ordered the same bed from Pompanoosuc Mills (www.pompy.com) in Cherry with the organic oil & wax finish...can't wait for it arrive sometime this century.

The bed was spendy so right now we are sticking with the nightstands we have, in black. On one side is the Claude from C&B (http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1020&f=3118) - bought at outlet for $175. On the other side is an antique-style bookseller's shelf from Target.

I don't have the bed yet, but I'm starting to wonder if the Claude is going to make the room look too leggy. The legs in this bed are really what make the look for me, so it's tough to decide about kind of nightstands would keep the airyness without making it too leggy.

Like others, I think the look of a Saarinen tulip would look great...but a drawer is a MUST for me, and on my husband's side the multiple shelves are invaluable.

Something to keep in mind, too, would be other furniture in the room. Do you have dressers, and what are they like?

Couple of questions for you...what kind of mattress and platform do you have with this bed, and are they working out?

Please post pictures of your bedroom when you've picked out the nightstands!
