I made cookies for the guests at my wedding - decided the cake was a bit much (or my mother decided for me).

My husband made the cake for our small wedding. My mother-in-law and I created the flower arrangements and a friend of the family took the pictures. It was lovely and very cost effective.

We took the money that would have been spent on a big wedding and used it toward a small downpayment for a home.

Isn't that a better way to start a marriage?

Several friends' weddings recently had cupcakes baked by friends (as their gifts) in lieu of an expensive cake. Kept the costs down, and allowed people to share their love and talents.

Same with Elizabeth II, friends made cupcakes for my sisters wedding - it was perfect for variety and lovely center pieces. It's become a common thing to do in her circle of friends...
