What is the advantage of SMALL? Living in Boston, in a decent neighborhood, implies living in a small space. Small space means less stuff so what I have can be better quality. Creating storage is really the challenge and it is very satisfying to find just the right solution...

What is the advantage of SMALL? CONT'D
If I had more space there is no way my bicycle would hang over the dining table and I would really miss that. It’s nice to have everything close and it makes it feel much more like a home. I’ve tried to use my small space to create warmth and texture with a bit of playfulness and color.
What's your favorite resource for your home?
My family has been my best resource. The couch was a hand-me-down from my older brother but I recovered the cushions. The dining table was also his painting table which I sanded and refinished. Beginning with an old cabinet door from my parent’s barn, I built the small side table by sanding and lacquering the door then built a base from other found wood. I also designed and built the plywood bookcases. Most of the art comes from my family as well as the dining room centerpiece - my hand-built bike frame built by my little brother.
What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home?
My bedroom in the morning - the light filters through the Until Dawn curtain, casting a soft green shadow on the white curtains to create a beautiful effect. It reminds me of vines growing up the outside of a greenhouse wall. With everything else subdued, the effect becomes the focus of the room.
