The Salvador Dali room at the Artists Inn Residence Bed and Breakfast in Dupont Circle is so fantastic we had to devote an entire tour to the one room and bath. The walls are hand-painted in a surreal Dali-like mural. The custom-made bed features a one-of-a-kind melting clock sculpture based on by Salvador Dali's painting "The Persistence of Memory". A flat-screen TV pops out of the headboard and the mural continues on the back of the TV! The bathroom features a huge bath in the center of the room. Each bathroom wall has circle-shaped windows with remote-controlled window-shades.
Who knew Dali could be so dreamy?

The experience seems somewhat odd to me since the painting "Persistence of Memory" is so tiny (what is it, around 8x11? Like a notebook sheet) and this room is so encompassing. Interesting how the scale of a work can evoke such a different feeling. I know too much of the weirdness of Dali's work to be able to sleep peacefully in a room like this, but I'd very much like a tour. And I like the butterflies.
I am surprised, though, that there is not at least one working (or at least kinetic) melted clock in this room. It begs for one!

I was in Barcelona in April and took the train up to the Dali museum. It was great, like a funhouse for adults. I think he would have approved of this room.
