apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Survey: Store Stickers

9-20-stick2.jpgWatch out Zagat. This Christmas, we're sending out stickers. Why? We thought it would be great PR and fun to do. Since many stores print out their AT reviews and put them in the window, we thought we'd give them something nicer, so we designed these stickers which they can put up instead. The question is, which one would you go with? (bigger pic below...)

why not both colors with the squiggles?

No squiggle would be like Mac not using the apple.

Definitely use the squiggle.

Whatever design and color you go with, please make sure the stickers peel off a variety of surfaces easily.

I don't think the "featured on ..." is noticeable enough. The point of this sticker is to let people know about the website, not get name recognition from your brand.

i agree with louisw. it's clear from the zagat stickers that the restaurant is a featured review. without looking more closely, this just looks like an ad.

great idea, though, if redesigned.

The "featured on" should go above "apartment therapy" and the placement of the squiggle seems off. If it were me, I'd make something like the website header, long and skinny with the orange squiggle outside the blue shape.

I would assume the sticker is going to be larger the the screen image so presumably it would drive both traffic and brand recognition.

Two things...agree with the "featured on" being a touch bigger and at the top, keeping the website small at the bottom. Second, possibly you take the squiggle shape and make that your sticker with your type inside. The squiggle looks like an afterthought at this point, however, it is part of your identity so it should be incorporated. Since you could move the "featured on" to the top, that leaves room underneath therapy for the squiggle if you want to use it small as is.

i think louisw has a very good point. "featured on" is more flattering. i find many people are confused by the name "apartment therapy". people assume it's a mental health thing. i ALWAYS have to explain.

How about adding the squiggle in the background quite large as a sort of watermark? It could be a couple of tones lighter then the background and wouldn't eat up so much space. The squiggle is important but the type looks better when it's larger.

apartment
therapy (~)

maybe move the squiggle after therapy? i think that would look more balanced...

I agree that the "featured on..." should be bigger.

I saw with squiggle, can't look at the mockup but it should be more prominent. I don't really like the olive, but the blue is evoking the amex accepted here sticker and I would try to stay away from that.

i heart mgn's sticker.

but I've always wondered, what's with the squiggle?

I'm digging mgn's version the best - no extraneous info, no duplicate words. And I second the suggestion for the olive color, as the blue is almost the same as AmEx's blue. With a quick glance, it would be easy to confuse the two.

I think they should be orange, in the shape of the squiggle.

I take back my vote and vote for mgn's instead. No matter what color, it looks professional, attractive, and not just like an ad for AT.

From a printing point of view, keep in mind that blue is the last of the four colors in CMYK printing to fade. So, for the longest-lasting stickers (!) I would strongly suggest using a blue that is as purely cyan (the C in CMYK) as possible.

Suggestions

1. Squiggle-shaped sticker- more eye-catching, incorporates AT's "silent" logo; no need for a watermark.

2. Orange - It's still an AT color (from the SF site); will stand out more than the green; won't be confused for AmEx.

3. MGN's wording - says everything it needs to say, flattering for the business and for AT; no ambiguity about it's purpose.

4. If squiggle shape sticker is not an option, center 'Featured on' and place the squiggle centered below 'Apartment Therapy.com'.

Consider this yet another vote for orange and mgn's design.

it looks a little too do-it-yourself without a designer. your leading is too wide and it's because the ascender and descender coming together. you could solve this problem by offsetting the top line 1-2 character spaces. and frankly the olive is a less common color so why not stand out.

the squiggle looks like an elephant or a turtle and it's completely unnecessary. it looks like a mistake in the banner so i don't think that as a symbol anyone is truly going to recognize it as being your unique identifier.

also i like this site quite a bit but could you maybe consider doing an off-shoot site with things that are actually affordable while still being stylish? i don't need to spend 3500 for a new tv stand.
