What's Your Style?: My Deco Style Survey
Boston

mydeco_3.jpg

Do you have identifiable style? We're not fans of labels and usually find ourselves cringing when we hear things like shabby chic but we came across a great (no, really) visual survey that will help you define the things you like. Jump below to take the survey and see how it labeled us...

mydeco_2.jpg

In order to calculate your style, the survey asks you to select your preference from a collage of options representing rooms in your home, furniture, colors and even lifestyle snapshots. Unlike some visual surveys we've participated in, there are a lot of options to suit many tastes and we found ourselves eager to get to the next question. It only takes a few minutes so head over to my deco, take the survey, then come back and tell us what it labeled you—and if you agree.

mydeco_4.jpg

We may not go around touting ourselves as retro chic but we'd have to agree with the spot-on description they gave us. We both took the survey seperately and both got the same result so we must be style-compatible. Maybe try sending it along to a spouse or roommate to see exactly why you can't seem to agree on anything...

Take the survey and tell us what your style is.

I am "Bohemian Rhapsody"..."When it comes to decorating and furnishing your home, no one would ever accuse you of purism and restraint. You're a real glamour puss, never happier than when an opportunity crops up to add another flourish of theatrical pizzazz to your home. We're not saying you're a drama queen, really...!"
Very spot on!

"WORLD TRAVELER"- "Global influences abound in the way you've decorated and furnished your home. It's a look that works well on a budget, and at the same time it says something about you and your interests: you particularly love collecting things that tell a story or trigger a memory and help make your place relaxed and inviting."

Yup, this is very much me. And not surprising since I managed Pier 1 imports stores in my previous life.

Home-Coming Queen:
Nothing--budgets included--stops you from putting your all into creating a dream home. Your look is quintessentially feminine: cool, pretty colours; layered patterns and textures; and flawless attention to every detail.

I guess I'd agree with that, except for the budget part!

Ohh! Am I the first Back to the Future?

You have a collector's eye for individual pieces that give your home a real sense of personality and style. The look may be retro, but it's anything but kitsch: your innate understanding of what works together (and the origin of each possession) gives your home an enduring elegance of its own that's neither overly modern nor faux-period.

I can live with that.........

I'm "ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS"

"There's no such thing as OTT in your book: why settle for average when you can have full-blown, unadulterated GORGEOUS? In some homes, the result is a riot of carte blanche camp, but expressed more subtly, the glamorous look can be drop-dead sexy and sophisticated. It's all a question of how you combine colour and texture with attitude and you're still working on getting things perfect. Why stop now when you're having so much fun?"

This is so spot on :)

Apparently I am "Pot-Luck Pro" :

" Your home certainly stands out from your neighbours'! There's nothing average or ordinary about the place, and that's just the way you like it. You have a maverick approach to interior design and decoration, gleaning ideas, inspiration and objects from the unlikeliest of places. Over the years, though, this has synthesised into something unmistakably 'you'. No one dares tell you how to furnish your home: you've got your own set of unique guidelines and that's all that matters. "

Yeah, I guess I can see that :) though I'm not sure whether or not that is a good thing...

I'm "International Chic"

"Not so long ago, the craze for ethnic-style interiors was ubiquitous. Maybe you embraced it, or maybe eschewed it, but anyway, you've moved on since then. Your home still reflects a passion for travel and an appreciation for other cultures without seeking to mimic or patronise. Classic, or even quite anonymous, pieces of furniture sit alongside unique pieces from far-flung places across the globe."

Kinda suprised that I am not a World Traveler though!

Lifetime Traveler.

I've never had the money to travel outside the US, but I'm an avid armchair traveler, and my home is stuffed with decorative items sent by my devoted aunt while she and her husband spent the first half of their 45-year marriage in various overseas posting (he worked for the govt). DUCHESS OF DISTINCTION (!)

Remarkably accurate, although I prefer to go by CZARINA OF STYLE.
"Your home will be quite a masculine environment, but nonetheless you want a place that is comfortable, with an air of well-worn maturity: you enjoy the good things in life, and that includes the furniture and furnishings around you. What could look quite conservative is, in fact, seriously self-indulgent - in the very best sense, of course, as every dream home should be."

Who knew?

For KelleyR:

BARCELONA COOL

This is one of the most disciplined looks to pull off, both in terms of how you furnish your home and how you live your life. Everything has to be precise, spot on, for in a minimalist home just one false move and the impact is lost completely. To its critics, minimalism looks cold and clinical, but your love of purity in the form of clean lines, beautiful materials and great design shines through.

You go for a fusion of styles that express your taste and personality. In the wrong hands, an eclectic approach can end up looking like a living room of leftovers. The great thing is that anything goes (well, almost). The challenge is to seamlessly pull everything together.

Sleek Chic

"Visitors are probably surprised by what lies beyond your front door: it just goes to show that appearances can be deceptive The minimal look, so often associated with loft-style living, can be pulled off behind the most unlikely facades, although it requires great discipline, both in terms of how you furnish your home and how you live your life. Everything has to be spot on, precise even, for in a minimalist home just one false move and the overall impact is lost completely."

Another "Back to Nature," but I think there are only a couple of us so far. The conclusion of my report was the most accurate part:

"Your home is a canny combination of styles and references: the log cabin but also the tree house, the hermit's retreat, but also the childhood den."

I guess that's what you get when you pick the dead leaves and the bright blue chandelier.
