We just got an email from the very cool and very high end shop R20th Century, with a few sneak peeks of stuff their showing next month at Art Basel. You don't see stuff like this very often, and we thought we'd share it if only as a visual feast with an excuse for a little background link....

Wendell Castle: "American furniture artist Wendell Castle (1932-) creates unique pieces that often meander beyond the traditional boundaries of even decorative furniture..."

Hugo França: "Mr. França spent 15 years in the 1980s and 1990s in isolation in northeastern Brazil, learning the fine points of working with trees. Since that time, he has been sculpturing furniture out of fallen and burned pequi hardwood scavenged from the coastal rain forest...."
I like the wood/root furniture. There's something about the way nature creates things, forms, colors that is overlooked too often. I like this too:

And this I like a lot too, it's reclaimed fence posts:

It looks like skyscrapers in the aftermath of destruction, looks "arty".
P.S. I thought that trend of adding "porn" to everything was over? I find it repulsive.

I love the look of a natural wood bowl. By the way, I've seen bowls like this at HomeGoods recently all in the $25 to $40 price range- really nice.

ah . . but is it a 'bowl' or is it a couch/chair? How big is it? Ditto the porn labels. Some of us aren't gen-xers or that other younger term - what is it? millenians or something?

We're huge fans of R 20th as well. Check out their stunning collection of mid century seating.

dnice, there are root bowls and baskets and vases at TJMaxx too. Starting around $15.00? Like these items:

Or like the Root of the Earth bowls at Viva Terra.
roccos, I think it's a chair. But I don't know. There is nothing there for size estimation. Just that it says that he makes furniture.
As far as the porn labels? I don't know what the age groups have to do with that word applied to everything...cheese is cheese, no matter how it's sliced.
