I don't know if its our New England sensibility, but we have always loved old barns and old painted wood. When Conrans made this display last year out of scrap wood, we swooned. We love the look but figured pulling it off was just a little beyond our DIY abilities. Then we stumbled upon scrap wood wallpaper...

Studio Ditte is a young Dutch design company that took images from the sloophout collection of one of our favorite Dutch furniture
designers, Piet Hein Eek and turned it into wallpaper. And it comes in a few colors too!

We can see papering a ceiling with this, closet doors, or even transforming an ikea wardrobe like
the Stranda, or Kullen. The possibilities are endless.

The wallpaper doesn't have that easy stacked feel of scrap wood.... it looks too boxy and geometric - too perfect...

I'm pretty sure that this wallpaper was blogged on the NY version of the site before, but I think it's beautiful and am happy to see it again.
Meanwhile, I have to say that the "boxy and geometric" aspect that sarahjam brings up is one of the things I like about it, because it balances out the look of decay with a sense of order. And then of course, the fact that the surface of wallpaper is undoubtedly pristine, which is also a nice contrast to what looks like peeling paint.
Basically, I love this, even though I've never seen it in person.

I wish Conran's or some other American company would import this, because having to learn another language just to schlep it here is more trouble than I'm certainly willing to do! Even if you could just buy it online like a person with a credit card, I wouldn't care where it came from.

Interesting concept, although I don't think I'll be putting it up on my walls any time soon.
