Warhol Modular Sofa from Simone Brewster

12-21-warhol-sofa-1.jpg

British designer Simone Brewster created the Warhol Sofa to provide the owner with the basic furniture to comfortably inhabit a single room. In addition to the sofa component, the timber, tyvek and upholstered elements can be arranged to provide a bed, desk and multiple seating areas.Via: The Style Files...

Nice design, but oddly mis-named. Andy Warhol covered the walls of his studio in tin foil. Minimalist, he was not.

In theory, I love the clever, multi-functional nature of this design--kind of like the wooden version of the old Veg-O-Matic ("It slices! It dices! It makes hundreds of French Fries in seconds!")--but in reality, I think I'd get tired of reconfiguring it from desk to table to bed & back again after about 2 days.

In principle, it's genius. But the timber-plus-tyvek combo says "shipping and receiving department" more than "comforts of home"... however, if I ever get something shipped to me in a big crate, this inspires me to turn that crate into furniture.

Clever multi-use piece of furniture for a small space. I think there are softer styles that will enhance its sales. Also, how does it come apart for shipping and fitting through doors. How much would it cost to ship?

The principal pieces and they way they appear to work in these few pictures makes me think it could be elegant in rosewood or teak with a microfiber or suade fabric. It has a lot of possibility.

That is quite possibly the ugliest piece of furniture I've ever seen! I'm all for multi-function things but how about a little style?

If I had a large, bare, brick-walled room with a mirror-smooth, polished concrete floor, perhaps I'd buy three or four of these for the room's autumn look. I'd put together a couch or two in front of the fireplace I forgot to mention I'd also have, and the only other decor would be the huge boughs of yellow-leaved trees I'd put in a tub (allowing the leaves to drift down all over the floor), and a huge, Russian, green glass chandelier full of bees' wax candles. . . . .

That is a cool sofa. I really like how its rustic and multi-purpose.
