2005_3_11_zabars.jpgOld standby. At the center of Upper West Side levantine food culture is Zabars. Started in 1934 by Louis and Lillian Zabar this is a family operation and there is always "a Zabar in the store."

Food aside, on the second floor is "one of the best stocked kitchen supply stores in the city." They have a good knife department, pot department and "great small appliances." They "only stock the good stuff. There is no junk."

Voted "Best Cookware" by NYMag in 2002, they say Zabars "also offers an unbeatable selection of cookware and kitchen gizmos, and at highly competitive prices." MGR

After living on the Upper Westside for years I finally went to the 2nd floor at Zabars. I was suprised to find a great selection of cookware, dishes, and appliances. I bought some Arabia dishes on the spot. If you are in the market for kitchen items it is worth the visit.

It's true, Zabar's second floor is a real suprise. They have Japanese rice cookers, a great selection of cutting
boards, amazing knives in every category, lovely glassware, candles at great prices...you name it.

The best! I'm always shocked when I shop elsewhere and see how much higher things cost. Anything you find in places like Williams Sonoma etc will be 25% cheaper or better at Zabars. And they always have the rubber replacement rings for my espresso mokas. And then there's the food downstairs! Yum! Beats the &^%$$# outta Whole Foods!

When I was there, there was a TON of Le Creuset on sale! I absolutely fell in love with the Mauviel cookware as well.

The best place to find non convetional items such as their great variety of electric-kettles... for all those europeans out there. ;)

are they related somehow to Eli's on the upper east side?
