Double Dose. We're not sure how we've missed this in the past as we consider ourselves up-to-date on Design Within Reach's offerings but we're newly smitten with the Piu Desk. Made of Tempered glass with movable steel trestles, the Piu easily changes from a desk to a table that seats four people...
The saw-horse-like legs swing around to allow for more legs under the tabletop. (One can see the difference in the legs in the top and bottom images.) We're especially fond of the modular storage units that rest on the table's edge. They are easily removable allowing for a quick presto-chango.
Available from DWR. Full price $1499. Currently on sale for $999. Desk without storage is $650.

Is it just me or does this look like one of those cheap swing sets we had as kids? That would be fine, even cute, at IKEA prices, but that is not the case here. Maybe it looks better in person. (I just don't recall seeing it at the DWR here in Charlotte.) The storage is cute, though.

i just received a piu desk and was surprised that a $1000 piece of furniture [ i got it on sale for $500 ] came with plastic leg slides that had to be pounded in - they don't fit well. i was also surprised to see machine tool marks around the leg assembly holes. and i was dismayed that the leg holes [ minor assembly is required ] don't match up much better than cheap kmart furniture. if you can get it on sale, it is not a bad desk. i would be wary of paying full price. also the storage is cute, but adds $225 to the sale price-for what is essentially a metal "in" box.
