Sea urchins are cute, when you think about it. The symmetry of their spikes, the spherical shape that is just about palm size. We think this is the rationale behind, say, a Pokemon character or a pretty paperweight.
Urchin, a boutique just a stones throw from Velocity Art and Designs old showroom and Great Jones Homes current one, is aptly named after this high-design echinoderm. While the actual story behind the name has more to do with the animals deliciousness, Urchin carries a selection of similarly palatable home items and original artwork.
Here youll find tableware by the likes of Lotta Jansdotter and Molo, furniture pieces by David Brunicardi and Amenity bedding. The selection of artwork is constantly rotating (find out whats new on their blog), but currently available pieces include mixed-media works (pictured) from Portland, Oregon-based artist Rachel Austin.
In addition to home accessories, Urchin carries jewelry, bags by Mandarina Duck and hip baby stuff from Blabla, Flensted and the Tea Collection. The effect is accessible and modern, and you will be treated to an airy and open shopping (or browsing) experience in this well laid-out boutique.
By volume, Urchin is pretty small. Their online store, however, isnt half bad certainly better than many stores with bigger inventories.
yay! i love rachel austin's work. its even nicer in person.
