Fold Bedding

2006_09_05_fold_logo.jpgBedspreads seems to have gone the way of Stretch Armstrong. But we miss them. They made it easy to make your bed quickly, without fussing too much on details. So we love Fold Bedding (oddly named, since the line is designed to drape over your bed, so technically doesn't actually require any folding).

Fold is the project of an El Cerrito-based couple, Max and Linda Geiser. The couple met while students at CCAC, and they've studied (collectively) textile design, architecture, and illustration.

2006_09_05_honeycomb-w-pill.jpgTheir flagship product line, Fold Bedding, grew out of their own need to find bedding that fit their modern organic tastes and that worked with the platform bed they chose when they were decorating their first home together.

Fold's bedspreads, pillows, and throw blankets are made from wool and linen, in sophisticated, monochromatic or color block designs, and subtly surface-textured with overlock stitching.

As the site explains, these textiles are "made to tuck in easily around platform beds, or drape beautifully over traditional beds for vintage appeal." This is bedding that flows, but that also has architectural heft from the raised overlock stitchpleats that are used in various ways.

Our favorite is the subtle Onion bedspread, made from wool, which goes for $485.

The Ray throw blanket is made from wool flannel. It's $300 and comes in many different color combos.

Fold can be found at many local retail outlets including Propeller, 2Modern, The Magazine, and Design Public, but are also available directly through Max and Linda's web site.
