A well-selected quilt can add color, warmth and a touch of grandma-style comfort to a room; but go too far and... well, maybe we don't want our home to be that much like grandma's.

No chance of that with these pop culture-inspired quilts, with likenesses of mix tapes, street signs, headphones and the like on them in un-flowery colors. Our favorites are this fierce-looking owl (we think his name is Owen — go to the website, you'll see) and the boom box, a classic.
Don't Quilt Your Day Job also quilts recycled plastic bags into B.O.B.s: bags made out of bags. Many items can be ordered through the website or their Etsy store; additional patterns can be found on their blog. Ask about customization.

There are a lot of different styles of quilts and some can be down right modern with out being ugly. I have a friend that does landscapes, color fade quilts and such. One has a black grid, that fades from red to blue from corner to corner with purple at the center. Way better than a creepy owl.
