While the retailer had a good selection of modern housewares and a prime location in Portland’s tony Pearl District, the storefront was so tiny that fitting more than a handful of local modernists inside was virtually impossible. Now, with more than double the size, Relish’s new digs finally give their chic products (and customers) plenty of room to breathe.

Everything that we’ve loved from the past has moved just a few blocks up the street – Marimekko textiles, chic sterling jewelry and one-of-a-kind pieces from area artisans. New is the space for interior and design consultations, as well as many more hot homegoods, perfectly picked by owner and international jetsetter, Trisha Guido.

And while it’s difficult to pick favorites when big names like Blomus, Chilewich and Sagaform are present, we did spot some finds that were worth calling out. In particular, we love the Aalto-inspired birch plywood chair from Portlander Michael Arras, spiky ceramics from Leah Nobilette and lacy bike baskets from Design House Stockholm, which double as shopping bags.

8-11-relish3.jpgWatch the space in the coming months, as Guido hopes to bring another design-friendly business to the adjoining storefront. In the meantime, the empty footage will be put to good use when she gathers several local artisans for a grand opening event on August 15 and 16.

Very Miao - some of us are in portland and enjoy seeing what is in our area as we don't have a AT of our own yet... You can share!

Very Miao, I'm lucky enough to be the Portland blogger...I just "report" to the AT:SF folks. Kind of like the Austin blogger reports to AT:LA.

Anyway, it's my job to come up with a post every day, with an emphasis on Portland's design scene. As coconutt says, Portlanders seem to like seeing their own city on AT!
