Look!: DNA Light at Haus Maus

7-6-08 dna light.jpgA few years ago we saw a great DIY on our site for making a socket extender chandelier. We loved the idea, and it was one of the posts that got us hooked on AT. But if you have any trepidations about rigging up your own electrical work, check out this ready made version...

The DIY version
We got this from Holly over at Haus Maus, and immediately remembered the old post. Originally designed by Irving Harper, the lamp has seen many reincarnations, but this version by Buro Fur Form is available through For Living, a company based in Europe (and we don't read German so we're not sure if you can get it delivered to the states). However, we were left wondering if we could get a similar effect by painting the outside of the sockets in our DIY - is that safe?

I would think it would be ok if done carefully, not getting any paint on electricity conducting parts and if it is wired safely. Just not with metallic paints...
