If your pet is a sloppy eater, a pet placemat can help save your floor from food spills and water damage. The problem is that most pet placemats are cheesy (bone, paw print, and other pet-themed designs) or not functional (not waterpoof, not sturdy, or without non-slip backing). In our seach, we found two pet placemats that cut the mustard: The Orvis Water Trapper Pet Placemat (seen above) and the Waterhog Pet Place Mat.

• The Waterhog Pet Place Mat comes in two sizes and four colors (green, burgundy, blue and khaki). Its rubber back and ridged border helps food and water bowls from being knocked and scooted around by your chowing furry friend. The larger mats hold two 10" diameter bowls and can be personalized with your pet's name. The smaller one holds two 7" diameter bowls. Both mats are made of durable polyester fabric that's constructed from recycled plastic bottles. $19.95-$32.95 at L.L. Bean.
• The Orvis Personalized Water Trapper Pet Placemat is similar to the Waterhog version in that it is sturdy, has a rubber backing so bowls stay put, and can be personalized with your pet's name. Orvis placemats are made out of polypropylene, come in two styles, and are available in several colors including blue, light gray, khaki, red, gold, and evergreen. $39 at Orvis.
My mom would love that Polish pottery looking food bowl.

That is so darn cute. I love that bone-shaped feeding dish. I have Roger kitty's bowls on one of those cheap non-skid mats you can find in Kmart and dollar stores. You've probably seen them - they're for putting on cabinet shelves and in drawers so the contents don't slip around. Roger had a habit of bumping his water mug and causing spills but ever since I put the non-skid mat down, there have been no accidents!

junk. useless on a wood floor, but perhaps serves some purpose in protecting carpet.

The bone-shaped dish that everyone likes is made by a company called Creature Comforts. I'm not sure where to find them online, but they are sold at lots of boutique-y pet shops. Good luck.

years ago i got a placemat for my dog's food and water. so instead of cleaning just the floor, i then had to clean the floor and placemat, so i got rid of it.
