Cable Car Flowers was opened in 1944. In 1962 it was bought by the Murdoch family and has been family owned and operated ever since.

The quality of the flowers rivals most other stands in the area. We're always pleased with the longevity of our bouquets.

We recently picked up these lovely Ping Cushion Protea for $6 a stem.

Those flowers are gorgeous!!!

Have you every compared their prices with those at the flower mart?

I buy at the flower mart, with a badge, for clients and personal use, but I am just curious your thoughts.

This post was very helpful, as I never know which of those flower stands to buy from.

@SBDesign - The flower mart can't be beat, but it's not very convenient for me to find myself in that area. Plus, you have to have a badge to buy... and (correct me if I'm wrong) most of the good stuff is gone by the early hours of the day.

@jennifer in sf - The stand directly across the street (in front of LV) is also A . Both have excellent options and prices.

There's a flower stand in the alley between Kearny and Montgomery/ Bush and Sutter (Trinity). All stems are $1 on Fridays, and even at 4pm or 5pm they still have a decent selection.

We have fresh flowers delivered to the office every week, and at least some of the stems are still fresh on Fridays, so I take them home with me to brighten up the weekend.

I always buy my flowers here! The flowers are great but the best thing is honestly the people--they're super nice and helpful. A few years ago, I was having a crappy day and I bought a cheap little bouquet. The guy said, "Would you be able to give some tulips a home? I need to get rid of them." And he gave me a bunch of tulips. I was new to the city then, and so touched.

Hey pantzini, who put a razor blade in your bagel this morning?

Love this stand!! I live in LA and was visiting my good friend in SF a few weeks ago when I snapped this pic (via link) there. She picked up some gorgeous ranunculus plus it reminded me of all the flower stands near the bodegas in NYC!
