Good Questions: Chairs to Go with My Table?

10-24-dining chairs1.jpgHello AT:SF, I have been looking everywhere for some nice, different, cool chairs to go with my new dining table which I got from pottery barn. It's a simple, black expandable table. Though it's not a modern table, I am tempted to buy modern dining chairs...

10-24-dining chairs2.jpg... Would you recommend something that will go well with my table?

thank you,

Cloudina

10-24-dining chairs3.jpgps - I love this chair but not sure if they will go well with my table or not. And also don't know where can I find those!!! I saw this picture on google images.

Anyone?

Hmm actually I think almost anything can go with that classical table, but I'm not sure those chairs are ideal, especially dark-on-dark, but curves are a good idea.

Try maybe white chairs, with a different texture (ie, fiberglass, plastic, metal) or lighter wooden chairs, like bentwood, that could make a nice contrast.
Starck's Louis Ghost could look nice : http://sybaritisme.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/fauteuil-transparent-louis-ghost-starck.jpg

Maybe you could alternate : two similar end chairs or armchairs, and different side chairs.

I can see these going with the table:

I'm sure you can get a way better vintage deal @Ebay if you keep looking there.

Gee, I really like that total black look and the chairs have nice graceful lines. Would love to have them myself.

Here's something different:

Decals on what looks like Ikea chairs. You could always upgrade the chairs.

I am no design authority. But I like the look of CB2's orbit armchair with traditional tables. See if you like it:

Also, if you tell what kind of mood you are looking for, cozy, formal, chic etc, it might be easier to recommend, because your table can work well with almost any chair.

These are vaguely reminiscent of those Wishbone lines, but at a much lower price:

I could see the acorn as a nice contrast with the black table.

I'd choose simple classic upholstered armchairs - such as these from C&B:

http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=897&f=30271

..and rather than the standard fabrics - I'd choose a bright and modern patterned fabric to liven up the mood, similar to this fabric (Chiang Mai Dragon) shown in a recent Schumacher ad:

http://www.fschumacher.com/whatsnew/advertising/ad_dragon.aspx

...and get additional yardage to have your dining room draperies made from the same fabric.

I don't think the black chairs are too good of a match . . . They're very 70's and would work better with a round and/or glass table.

I'd go with something opposite to the table - either plastic or fabric. You want to play off the hardness and darkness of the table. You don't mention what the other items or colors you have in your space are but, here are a few ideas.

On the higher priced side - an eames molded plastic side chair in either white or any of their fun colors (blue, orange, lime) would look great:

Or

The clear Ikea Tobias chair:

Here's a table similar to yours shown with the CB2 Zebra chair and a bench:

Here's the Zebra chair alone:

Also, Anthropologie has some new fabric folding chairs that come in a bunch of different print styles. They would look great with your table, too. Check out the different styles, if you like the idea of a fun print and a folding chair:

Good luck and have fun with it!
